WHAT I BELIEVE AND WHAT I WILL FIGHT FOR
General Philosophy
I believe government begins with the individual, it then expands to the family, to the church/community, then to the local government, the state government, and finally to the national government. Our nation and its current leaders have this in reverse. They believe government begins in Washington, D.C. They first ask what the national government can do for the individual long before they ask how the individual is personally responsible.
I believe the federal government should be limited to national defense, infrastructure, transportation, education, and providing a social safety net.
-
I am the fiscal conservative candidate.
- I pledge I will not vote for a budget that is not balanced, whether it is a Republican or Democratic budget.
- I support a Balanced Budget Amendment.
Disabilities
- I support increased accessibility for people with disabilities.
- I support empathetic training for the community.
- If elected, I will increase awareness on such issues as children with disabilities.
Education
-
Education, including early childhood, graduation rates, teacher training/retention/pay, is the biggest issue facing South Carolina.
- My stance on education can be summed in three letters … PTA, or parent-teacher associations. Education begins at home and in the local community.
- However, I do support federal government funding of higher educational institutions, grants for creative educational reforms, and scholarships/loans to individuals to provide opportunities for students to reach their highest potential.
Energy
-
I do not support cap-and-trade legislation that ultimately would increase families’ utility bills, increase government involvement in businesses, create a market for offsets and permits, and produce marginal effects on the environment.
-
The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm.
-
I oppose government-run health care.
- Cost, not coverage is the issue. The free market is the best avenue to reduce cost, not expanded government intervention and mandates.
We must:
-
Secure the borders
- Enforce current laws penalizing corporations for employing illegal immigrants
- Encourage legal immigration
Right to Life
- I believe the most fundamental right we have is the right to life.
Social Security
-
I want to restore personal responsibility into retirement planning.
- I support a mandated retirement system that is sustainable, but not one
that politicians steal from and relies on the subsequent generation.
Tax Policy
-
I support a tax policy reform that promotes simplicity, fairness, and transparency.
Tenth Amendment
-
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
- I support state sovereignty and the return of power to the local government. This includes education, tax policy, gun rights and, most importantly, social issues.
Term Limits
- I support national term limits.
- However, I believe self-imposed term limits are naive and would do a disservice to our District.
- Terrorists are attacking us because of our ideals. The reason we fight is to maintain those ideals.
- I do not support the use of torture. I believe we should maintain our ideals in the face of our enemies.
Transportation/Infrastructure
-
I believe federal support of infrastructure, both maintenance and construction, provide economic opportunity to states.
- I will support a high-speed rail through the Third District.
Unemployment/Recruitment
-
Along with education, recruiting businesses and encouraging job creation should be the primary concern for the next representative.
- I will highlight our hard-working, blue collar citizens to recruit businesses to our district.
- I believe lowering taxes on small businesses stimulates job creation far better than government spending.
